Parish Life |
We are a Community that practices Hospitality! |
One of the most basic manifestations of Christian community is hospitality and table fellowship, following Christ’s own practice. Where there is Parish Life, there is the opportunity to experience fellowship and to learn more about God’s love for us through one another. Our Parish has a very strong feeling of Family, and we welcome newcomers as family.
On Sundays after the 10:30 am services, Coffee Hour Fellowship provides a time for informal conversation and companionship. Bread Breakers, Mens' Fellowship, Monthly Fellowship are some of the opportunities to gather and enjoy fellowship in a relaxed atmosphere away from the church. It is an excellent way to meet new people. In addition to these monthly gatherings there are annual gatherings such as the annual Parish Picnic and Lenten Suppers. Please join us - we'd love to get to know you.
Parish Life depends on committee members and parishioners to help carry out the activities that occur all year long. For more information about getting involved in any of the Parish Life activities, contact the Parish Office.
Descriptions of the various groups involved in Parish Life:
|
Bread Breakers |
Bread Breakers is a group of people from St. Peters who enjoy dinner and fellowship on the first Saturday of select months. The dinner is hosted by a family and the food is provided by all those attending (your contribution can be homemade or purchased). Initial reservations are made through Valerie Estes by telephone or e-mail and final arrangements are made by the hostess. There may be up to 4 different homes each month. You do not need to participate each month, only when you so desire. As Tom Durst has written, "you can spend an evening with witty, attractive and impossibly charming people." Everyone in the church is welcome. |
Newcomers' Fellowship |
The Newcomers Fellowship is our way to provide an informal way to enjoy fellowship with our new parishioners and welcome them to our family. This group is headed up by Mimi Abels and Tim Robinson. |
Episcopal Church Women ECW |
The purpose of this organization is to unite the ECW of St. Peter's Church in allegiance to their Lord, Jesus Christ, in a program of worship, study, work, and fellowship which will broaden their Christian outlook, strengthen their own spiritual lives, and lead them into Christian service in the church, community, nation, and the world.
ECW projects include the White Elephant Sale and United Thank Offering which support many ministries in our community.

Men's Fellowship |
The Men's Fellowship was begun in the 1990s to bring men of the Parish together to help maintain the church facility and grounds with a fellowship element to bind the group together. Over the years the Men's Fellowship's role has expanded to include overseeing and completing the Segars pavilion, modifying educational wing classrooms to adjust to growing space needs and expanding the Parish kitchen and finishing the remodeled Chapel. Current projects undertaken by the Men's Fellowshipthe Fellowship funds scholarships for physically disabled children to attend a one week residential main stream summer camp, funds and hosts meals for Home Works teenage and adult volunteers who work to repair homes for the disabled, provides youth mission trip support and home repairs for parish members in need and providing clothing support for the elderly in nursing homes, clothing and gifts for families in need during the holidays and investing in partnerships with other Parish ministries to work together for common service goals.
The Men’s Fellowship Group has and continues to be self funded by member donations for the monthly breakfast and periodic fundraisers. By tradition the Men’s Fellowship Group sponsors the annual Parish picnic, the annual Mother’s/Ladies Day brunch and provides service support to numerous other Parish ministries. The St. Peter’s Men’s Fellowship Group has evolved into a community serving “sweat” ministry seeking to contribute to the Parish commitment to act as “One Body, One Mission, Changing Lives.”
All adult males 18+ are automatic members of the Men’s Fellowship Group which now averages a monthly attendance from 24-30+ attendees.

Monthly Fellowship |
On the last Saturday of every month (or whatever is convenient for the host), a group of parishioners meets at someone’s home to enjoy each other’s company as well as the hors d’oeuvres and beverages they have brought to share. This event starts at 7 PM and usually runs to about 9 or 9:30. Participants take turns being the host, and the event is open to everyone. This is usually a well attended affair with as many as 30-50 people participating. Betty Walker is in charge of organizing the event and sends out the schedule for the hosts. Please make plans to join them!

St. Peter's Community Garden |
St. Peter’s Community Garden was created in 2010 to provide for our neighbors and our members to grow vegetables that we and the hungry in Greenville can share. We currently have 12 plots with capacity of 30. Anyone can have a plot; the fee is $125 the first year which pays for the raised bed, the soil and the daily watering. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is located at the corner of Hudson and Devenger Roads in the Eastside of Greenville. The Garden is at the back of the church next to our pavilion.
All the person has to do is plant, pick , tithe, and weed his/her plot! The 10% tithe is to Miracle Hill’s Woman Shelter, or other hunger organizations. Once a week, a plot owner takes our 10% to one of the hunger organizations.
Plantings start in February and grow until November. In 2012, we plan to take 12 more plots and make a very large plot to handle communal corn, acorn squash and other plants that sprawl everywhere!
